What to Bring

Your visit to Charlottesville may fly by, but there are some things you’ll want to make sure you bring with you.

Personal Items


  • Unexpired, laminated government-issued photo ID

US driver's license, state-issued ID card, passport, or US military ID. One form of ID is required to get your UVA ID, which will serve as your room key for your orientation housing. Photocopies and school-issued IDs are not accepted.

  • Paper, pens, and pencils for notetaking


  • Laptop computer or tablet

Having a laptop or tablet with you will come in handy during course advising.


  • Casual, comfortable clothing and walking shoes

You may want to pack a sweatshirt, jeans, raincoat, and umbrella, as the weather can be unpredictable.


  • Workout clothes and footwear

You will have access to the UVA fitness facilities, which include a pool, so you may want to bring a bathing suit as well.


  • Blanket and pillow

A pillow and sheets will be provided. You may want to bring a blanket and your own pillow.


  • Toiletries

In addition to personal toiletry items, you should bring a towel, washcloth, and shower shoes.


  • Water bottle


  • Phone charger


Academic Information


  • For the College of Arts & Sciences: pre-selected courses list

Students in the College of Arts & Sciences MUST bring a hard copy/printed version of courses you have pre-selected in the Student Information System (SIS).


  • Advanced Placement/IB scores

Do not be concerned if you do not receive them in time for your session. Printouts of online scoring information are acceptable.


  • For transfer students: your academic requirements report

Academic Requirements is a report designed to assist currently enrolled undergraduate students and their advisors in the advising process. You can get a copy of your Academic Requirements through SIS.


  • If applicable: foreign language placement scores

Scores from French, Spanish/Italian, or German foreign language placement exams taken before orientation.
