Register for Summer Orientation
Submit Photo for Student ID Card
Not only will you pick up your UVA ID card at Summer Orientation, you will use it as your room access card for your overnight stay. You need to submit your photo online by the June 7 deadline in order to receive your room assignment and check-in location for Summer Orientation.

Retrieve your UID (University ID) number
Your UID number is the nine-digit number that serves as your ID throughout your time at UVA. Assigned to you by the University, it is NOT your Social Security number. You can retrieve your UID number online. To do so, you will need your seven-digit UVA Student Information System (SIS) ID number. This number can be found in the email acknowledging receipt of your application for admission.
Complete Housing Application
All first-year students live on Grounds and must complete the Housing Application. This item is optional for incoming transfer students.

Complete Dining Contract
All first-year students must complete a dining contract. First-years must sign up for the “Ultimate Access” or “All Access 7” plans unless they live in a residential college. Residential college first-years must chose the "Ultimate Access” or “All Access 7” that is linked to their particular residential college. First-years who do not sign up by July 5 will be defaulted into the "All Access 7" annual plan. Incoming transfer students and upperclass students can (but are not required to) sign up for any meal plan at any time.

Arts & Sciences Only: Complete New Student Information Form
College of Arts & Sciences students are required to submit the Student Information Form.

Arts & Sciences Only: Submit Preferences for Your General Education Curriculum
All incoming students in the College of Arts & Sciences complete a general education curriculum in addition to a major while at UVA. To know which courses to enroll in during Summer Orientation, students should review the three general education curriculum options and submit their preferences for one, two, or three curricula by the deadline below.

SEAS Only: Register for the Calculus Placement Test
All incoming SEAS (School of Engineering & Applied Science) students are required to take the Calculus Placement Test before coming to orientation. In order to choose a time to take the placement test, first complete the Calculus Background & Placement Survey at least one month before your orientation session. Note that you will need to complete the Student IT Checklist prior to completing the survey, because you will need to provide your UVA computing ID.
Incoming A&S (Arts & Sciences) students should not complete the survey or take the placement test.
Take Foreign Language Placement Exams
A foreign language placement exam is required only for students in the College of Arts & Sciences and Architectural History students in the School of Architecture. For students in other schools, the exam is required only if you choose to take a foreign language class.
French, German, Latin, Persian, and Spanish placement exams should be taken before coming to orientation:
The Italian placement exam may be taken at any time prior to the start of classes.

Make Parents and Other Authorized Users in UVAPay
Your student record is protected -- even from your parents -- by federal law. Because so many students rely on their parents and others for help with their financial aid or student account, we recommend that all students make parents or anyone else helping them with financing college authorized users in UVAPay. It only takes a minute, and your parents and your future self will thank you!

Sign Up for the Cavalier Outdoor Adventure Retreat (COAR)
Get to know other first-years on an IM-Rec three-day adventure trip in Shenandoah National Park. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to cover the costs of the COAR registration. Eligible students will receive notification via email from Student Financial Services.

Register with Student Disability Services (as needed)
Students who need to request academic and/or housing accommodations based on a disability or medical condition should register with the Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) as soon as possible. In order to register, please go to the SDAC website, scroll down, click on the “register for services” button, and complete the online form.
Those who need a housing accommodation because of a medical condition should submit the form by June 1.

Learn about participating in Project SERVE, a one-day service opportunity for incoming students on Friday, August 30 from 2:00-5:30 p.m.
Sign up for UVA Alerts
You can register to receive text messages regarding emergency situations on Grounds.
You can also download the LiveSafe app to receive both emergency and non-emergency notifications, including UVA Alerts. The app contains dozens of safety resources and features, such as "Report a Tip," which communicates directly to UVA Police, 24/7. The app is free from iTunes or Google Play.
