Housing and Residence Life

Housing & Residence Life offers a variety of residence options to new students. Living on Grounds provides the best combination of location, pricing, and being plugged in to the UVA community. More information is available about first-year, incoming transfer student, and upperclass on-Grounds housing options. Also see the Inclusive Housing page for a variety housing options intended to address special circumstances that may affect your housing needs. Additionally, Housing & Residence Life is partnering with Student Health and Wellness to offer a new housing option in Fall 2022 for students (both undergraduate and graduate) who are in recovery from a substance use disorder. Residents in the Collegiate Recovery Program/recovery housing will engage in a supportive University living and learning community while building lifelong recovery skills.

If you are interested in exploring off-Grounds housing, check out the off-Grounds Services page for resources.

Resident Advisors

Every on-Grounds resident has a Resident Advisor (RA) who lives within the residential community. These student leaders are committed to building strong communities that value the University’s traditions of honor and student self-governance. Through structured programs and informal peer advising, RAs support the physical well-being of students as well as their academic, social, and emotional development.

Transfer Student Peer Advisors

All incoming transfer students are assigned a Transfer Student Peer Advisor. These upperclass students are invested in serving our transfer population and helping them adjust to the University socially and academically.

Once you are settled in, please consider becoming a TSPA and helping to welcome future transfer students to the UVA community.

Student Engagement

Student Engagement provides resources to help students turn their ideas into reality. As self-governance encourages students to learn by participating and leading, Student Engagement's mission is to engage students and the University community in self-governance and promote citizen leadership. Student Engagement staff help students find their place at UVA through student organizations, student government, events, or by creating something new.
