Remind your student to check their University email
All UVA correspondence will be sent to directly students, so be sure that your student actively monitors their University email account for important correspondence and updates.
Encourage your student to take the Student Information System (SIS) tutorial
Students can learn how to use SIS to register for classes, monitor finances, review academic requirements, etc.
Ask your student about course registration
Your student can explore course offerings on the Student Information System (SIS). In addition to course registration by school in July, students can add or drop classes starting in August. The drop/app process is very active at UVA, so encourage your student to add themselves to waitlists for classes that are of interest to them!
Sign up for UVA Alerts emergency text messages
Your student will need to add your cell phone number as a secondary number In the UVA Alerts system so that you can receive alerts about emergencies at UVA.
Talk about big issues
Discuss what academic expectations, time management, financial responsibility, social involvement, safety, and alcohol use will look like for your student when they leave for school.
Plan for move-in and Wahoo Welcome
