The schedule for our Summer Orientation parents and guests runs concurrent to the student schedule. We hope that by attending Summer Orientation, parents and guests feel better acquainted with the University of Virginia Grounds and the resources available to both them and their students.
What is Parent & Guest Orientation like?
Detailed orientation session schedules for parents and guests will be posted in mid-May. Check-in on day one runs from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Attendees should plan to check out between 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. on day two.
In the meantime, the information below can give you an idea of the sessions you'll attend during Summer Orientation:
Hoo’s Moving In
Hear from representatives from Housing & Residence Life as they answer your questions about Move-In Days, living on Grounds and building community in the residence halls. Student leaders will also be on hand to discuss their experiences and ways in which family can be helpful partners in supporting their student’s transition to college.
Parents and Guest Reception
Join us at Alumni Hall for a social parents reception! Mingle with other parents and families, speak with representatives from the Division of Student Affairs and enjoy hors d’oeuvres. This event gives parents and guests the opportunity to connect with families from around the country!
Academic Colleges Meetings
Each academic college hosts a meeting during Summer Orientation. While your student is busy registering for classes, stop in to these meetings to learn more about the curricula for each of these schools and learn about the multiple steps to success at the University.
