Use the list below to keep on track with tasks before and after attending orientation.

 

Before Orientation

 

  • Sign up for UVA Parent Communications

Sign up to receive emails featuring up-to-date news and events, important dates, links of interest to parents, and more.

 

  • Read the Handbook for Parents

The Handbook for Parents contains important information about student life, academics, and University policies.

 

  • Visit the Office of the Dean of Students website

At the Office of the Dean of Students website, you can learn about programs and services, University traditions, student safety, important University policies, and more.

 

  • Remind your student to complete the Student To-Do List

The Student To-Do List includes important deadlines that occur throughout the summer.

 

  • Remind your student to register for Summer Orientation

Online registration begins April 1. It is your student's responsibility to register parents or guests. There is a two-guest limit per student. See our FAQs for more details.

 

  • Encourage your student to take the Student Information System (SIS) tutorial

Students can learn how to use SIS to register for classes, monitor finances, review academic requirements, etc.

 

  • Remind your student to review the FAQs

Many questions are answered in the FAQs.

 

  • Remind your student to check their University email

All Summer Orientation correspondence will be sent to students, so students should actively monitor their University email accounts for important correspondence and updates.

 

  • Make plans to attend Summer Orientation

Review our website for more information and come prepared with questions. Confirm that your student has registered you to attend.

 

After Orientation

 

  • Ask your student about course registration

Explore course offerings on the Student Information System (SIS). Summer Orientation is just the beginning of the course registration process. Students can add or drop classes starting in August.

 

  • Let us know what you thought about Summer Orientation

Take our post-orientation survey.

 

  • Ask your student about UVA Alerts emergency text messages

In the UVA Alerts system, students can add a parent's cell phone number as a secondary number to receive alerts.

 

  • Talk about those big issues

Discuss academic expectations, time management, financial responsibility, social involvement, safety, and alcohol.

 

  • Plan for move-in and Wahoo Welcome

Move-in Days are Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19. Wahoo Welcome is our fall orientation for students.

 

  • Check out the CAV Program website for computers and dorm essentials

  • Check out University Cleaners laundry service

If you are interested in weekly wash, dry, and fold services for your laundry, check out Housing & Residence Life's approved vendor University Cleaners. Their weekly service provides you with 15 pounds of laundry (two loads) each week of the academic year.
