Bouncing Back: Stories of Resilience and Strategies for First-Year Thriving

Your first year at UVA will be loaded with opportunities for fulfillment and fun. However, there will also be unexpected twists, turns, and some disappointments. In this session you will hear about students who experienced some typical first-year setbacks and how they successfully navigated their adjustment to college life at UVA.

Meet with Orientation Leaders to review your first day of orientation and discuss overnight policies for the residence halls.

UVA After Hours: Late Night Fun at the AFC

Aquatic & Fitness Center

Join classmates and Orientation Leaders for an evening of fun activities, including a Zumba class, basketball, a night hike, tie-dye, and pizza.

Day Two

Breakfast With Your Orientation Leader

7:45-8:45 a.m.
Observatory Hill Dining Room

Meet your Orientation Leader for breakfast and get your agenda for the day. Important course enrollment information will be distributed.

Dean's Address and Course Advising Workshops

9:00-11:30 a.m.
Various Locations

Meet with a dean from your school to learn about academic requirements. Work with Orientation Leaders and faculty advisors to build your fall course schedule. If available, be sure to bring your credit evaluation of transcripts, SAT II, AP, IB and language placement exam scores. Students in the College of Arts & Sciences MUST bring a hard copy/printed version of courses you have pre-selected in the Student Information System (SIS) and placed in your shopping cart.

Check-Out and ID Distribution

2:30-5:00 p.m.
Student Activities Building

Check-Out will not begin before 2:30 p.m.

Students will return their swipe/access card, and pick up their class t-shirt and student ID (which is needed on move-in day) at the Student Activities Building. One form of government issued ID (US driver's license, state-issued ID card, passport, or US military ID) is required to pick-up UVA IDs. Expired IDs, photocopies and school-issued IDs are not accepted.

Please note: students who do not return their swipe/access card at check-out will be charged a $40 fee.
